WHAT IS LYME, EBV & CO-INFECTIONS?

Stealth pathogens are viruses, bacteria, or fungi that can hide in your body for years. They stay quiet until something like stress or illness triggers them—and that’s when symptoms begin.

For a long time, people with chronic infections were often ignored or misdiagnosed. Now, better awareness and testing are helping more people get real answers and the care they need.

At Balanced Healing, Juliann specializes in working with stealth infections like Lyme disease, Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV), and co-infections such as Babesia, Bartonella, and Borrelia burgdorferi.

COMMON SYMPTOMS OF LYME DISEASE & CO-INFECTIONS

Symptoms of Lyme disease and related co-infections are often systemic, confusing, and overlapping, which is why they’re frequently missed. Common symptoms include:

1

Bull’s-eye rash (not always present)

2

Purple/red streaks on abdomen or rash that resembles stretch marks

3

Fatigue and brain fog

4

Muscle aches, joint pain, or joint swelling

5

Headaches and dizziness

Chest tightness, heart palpitations, shortness of breath

6

7

Anxiety and depression

8

Fevers or chills

Nausea, abdominal pain, or appetite changes

9

10

Dizziness, vertigo

11

Air hunger (feeling like you can’t get a deep breath)

Ongoing exhaustion or malaise

COMMON SYMPTOMS OF EPSTEIN-BARR VIRUS (EBV)

EBV symptoms can resemble chronic fatigue or persistent viral illness. Some of the most common presentations include:

4

Muscle aches and body pain

2

Frequent headaches

5

Feeling like you’re always fighting off a cold or virus

3

Sore throat or swollen lymph nodes

When Did I Become Infected?

That’s the million-dollar question and the answer isn’t always clear. With stealth pathogens, you might:

  • Be infected and develop symptoms immediately, OR

  • Carry the pathogen dormant for years, only to have it activate during times of chronic stress, illness, or immune weakness

Lyme disease has been thought to be spread by ticks, but new research suggests that mosquitos may also be carriers.

EBV, part of the herpesvirus family, is extremely prevalent. An estimated 90% of adults carry it and you may know it better as the virus behind mononucleosis (“mono” or “the kissing disease”).

Why Do Some People Get So Sick?

If EBV and Lyme are so common, why are you experiencing intense, life-disrupting symptoms while others don’t?

It comes down to immune system function, toxic burden, nervous system regulation, chronic stressors, and resilience. These infections exploit a weakened system. That’s why healing from stealth pathogens requires more than a pill - it requires a whole-body, root-cause approach.
